Lake of the Ozarks: My Surreal Summers In a Vanishing AmericaBy: Bill Geist
On Gina and Jim's 50th Anniversary, Gina suggested it would be a great idea to have a reunion of Arrowhead Lodge former employees, some of whom were in their wedding. Jim jokingly said, “That's a great idea, Gina, but they are probably all dead. “ However, Gina proceeded to put the reunion together with as many of the individuals she could locate. One of the wedding groomsmen was Bill Geist, who went on to become a nationally known CBS correspondent and appeared on CBS Sunday Morning for over 30 years. He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, three Emmy Awards, and was also the author of several New York Times best-selling books. Fortunately, Bill and his wife were one of the 15 people who showed up at the reunion and, when everyone got together, it was suggested Bill write another book on their summer adventures at Arrowhead Lodge. Everyone reminisced about all of the experiences they had and, after returning to their homes, corresponded with Bill with even more experiences. Gina put together a scrapbook for each of the attendees and Bill asked Gina if she could provide pictures for his book – most of the pictures in the book were taken by Gina during those enjoyable years.. Bill went immediately to work and the following year his book entitled, “Lake of the Ozarks,-- My Surreal Summers in a Vanishing America.”, which became another NewYork Times Best Seller. Gina & Jim's wedding, which took place at the end of the summer of 1966, was detailed in the book. It was a great anniversary celebration and the book is a wonderful memento of the 50th wedding anniversary. Gina and BillyBook Gina Made for all Attendees at our 50th Wedding Anniversary |
